2015 BMW M5 30 Jahre Edition impresses auctioneers

Owning a BMW M5 is satisfying. Owning a special version of this model is even better. Weirdly however, owning the last of a very special edition is perhaps not as impressive.

At least not considering what recently happened at Barrett Jackson’s Scottsdale auction last week. That’s where somebody paid 700.000 USD to secure this car.

It is the last (number 30 for US) of the 50 Jahre Special Edition version of the BMW M5. Being designed to celebrate 30 years of M cars is quite the honor.

The heightened price is justified by other means as well. For instance, this version is the most powerful M5 ever deviced.

In this state, the 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine pumps out no less than 600 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Otherwise there are no technical changes.

You do get 20 inch wheels, huge tires, a 10 mm drop in the suspesion, a reprogrammed M Dynamic Mode and stiffer anti-roll bars to ruin the ride included in the package.

Not trying to be too old, I will admit the car looks stunning and that the paint is really cool (albeit somewhat tricky to maintain).

Even with all the kit in the world and all the added exclusivity and coolness it still seems amazing to notice how much money had to be put down in order to secure the car.

At the end of the show, nearly three quarters of a million dollars were put down by NASCAR’s Rick Hendrick.

Since he’s got a whole museum dedicated to rare cars, the new car will have a great home. It will be seated next to the BMW i8 he already has.

The only sad thing about the whole story is that this special edition BMW M5, with all its power won’t get to roam the roads.

Dallas Performance Lamborghini Gallardo is now crazy

Dallas Performance is a tuning company that has some interest in good looking cars but which is really crazy about fast ones.

In fact, the Texas based tuner is as crazy about power as any movie villain set on world domination. I mean, for several years they’ve been making turbo Lamborghini Gallardo models.

The newest update to their website simply reads: 2000 horsepower now available for the Lamboghini Gallardo. Can you spell crazy in other versions?

I still remember how hard Adam Ferrara’s hands were shaking when he got out of his topped out Gallardo. And that was the bone stock version of the car.

Having four times the power with marginal increases in weight must be truly terrifying. Still, the American tuner is promising this sort of output.

Actually that’s not accurate, they’re promising this sort of horsepower at the wheels. That will definitely be racing fuel it’s running on to hit these numbers (as is the case in their previous experience).

Even so, estimate some 1200 horsepower on pump gas. That still more than twice what the car offered at its best. I suppose after this sort of full throttle experience life will seem somewhat bland.

Getting back to the incredible blend of speed turbochargers and Italian supercars, the pricing wasn’t announced for such a system but an inquiry box is always open on their website.

If you were going to actually decide and buys such a beast, expect to turn in your Lamborghini today and get it back with all the added power in several weeks.

Some of the 1300 horsepower packs they offer take six weeks to build due to the intensive fabrication that goes into the final product.

Please note that the images don’t showcase 2000 horsepower builds.

2015 Porsche 919 Hybrid seen in Abu Dhabi

Porsche is one of the car makers we all know that isn’t known for making much other than race cars. This is why every new racer they launch is important.

Take the 2015 Porsche 919 Hybrid endurance prototype. With one year on track where they showed that they can get back in the game, the second arrival is crucial.

With Le Mans 24 hours trophy firmly in their sights, the German manufacturer has already started testing. The first opportunity presented itself in Abu Dhabi.

The Yas Marina Circuit is a proper race track where the car properly shakes down in conditions that may not happen at the Weissach location back home.

In regards to the 919 Hybrid racer, as you’d expect, this new version is going to be better. Exactly how hasn’t been said by Porsche.

What we can almost certainly expect given the previous experience is some work on the reliability of the system. Obviously, some improvements in performance have to come along.

Expecting lower weight isn’t the right way of looking at it however some rearranging of the masses may have happened.

Aerodynamics is the most important thing in racing at high speeds when fuel economy has to somehow happen. This may be why the looks of this bug-eyed road runner have ever so subtly changed.

Want for some actual details? Unfortunately they’re not happening since Porsche are really holding their cards close to their chest.

All they’ve told us with these official photos available in anticipation of World Endurance Championship is that the car is powered by a 2.0 liter V4 turbocharged petrol burning engine and an electric motor. Sure there’s two energy recovery systems and there’s some interesting technology in the middle, but we don’t get to know too much about that. Thanks for read the articles.
